The 36th Annual Dow Tennis Classic Weeklong Tournament and Community Events Begin this Saturday, Nov. 2

MIDLAND, Mich (Aug 19, 2024)

Michigan's largest professional tennis tournament will be returning to Midland this fall, as the 2024 Dow Tennis Classic will take place November 3 through November 10 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

“With all of the momentum that the tournament has built since becoming a part of the WTA Tour in 2021, we are grateful for the continued support of Dow and the WTA to keep growing this event,” said Jeff Rekeweg, Tournament Director of the Dow Tennis Classic and Executive Director of the Greater Midland Tennis Center. "We are excited to keep building upon our connection with local businesses, school outreach and the overall economic impact on the Great Lakes Bay region that the Dow Tennis Classic provides." “Dow's roots in Midland run deep, so bringing the excitement of the Dow Tennis Classic to our community for over 35 years now has been extremely fulfilling,” said Carlos Padilla II, head of global sports partnerships at Dow. “The event continues to be a cornerstone of fostering comradery amongst Midlanders, and being able to also use it as a platform for showcasing Dow’s innovations in sport is such a privilege. We’re thrilled to renew the tournament with the Greater Midland Tennis Center and keep the momentum going.” The tournament enters its 36th year and will once again feature top female tennis players from around the world, with $115,000 in prize money at stake.

Last year, the event featured 8 players in the current WTA Top 100 Rankings, including #20 ranked Emma Navarro and #24 ranked 2023 DTC Champion, Anna Kalinskaya. Rekeweg explained further, “Our player fields the last few years have been incredible and it is also fulfilling to see players using the Dow Tennis Classic as a way to grow confidence for the following season. An example is our 2023 Champion, Anna Kalinskaya, who came into the DTC ranked 115 in the world and is now up to 24 in the world rankings.” In addition to the top-tier recent players, the storied history of the Dow Tennis Classic includes many other notable alumni. Current World No. 3, Coco Gauff, played the Dow Tennis Classic in 2019 and recently won her first Grand Slam, winning the US Open last fall. Other notable alumni include Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Jessica Pegula & Eugenie Bouchard.

In addition to all of the action on the court, the Dow Tennis Classic continues to separate itself from other events on the tennis calendar, due to the unique community connection. A big part of the event is the school outreach program, that has players go directly to local schools to interact with kids, as well as local schools coming directly to the event and watching matches live. Over 1000 students were a part of the program General Business last year, with an aim to reach over 1500 this year.

In addition to this program, the Dow Tennis Classic includes a robust volunteer program that emphasizes the hospitality of the Greater Midland community for the WTA players. There is no better time to experience the Dow Tennis Classic, as there are a wide range of ticketing, hospitality and sponsorship options available. Sponsorships of all levels and all ticketing options are now on available. For more information, please visit www.dowtennisclassic.com
