Dow Tennis Classic to postpone tournament to November 2021

MIDLAND, Mich. (October 19, 2020) – Greater Midland, Dow (NYSE: DOW) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) today jointly announced that the 2021 Dow Tennis Classic, originally scheduled for February 1-7, 2021 will move to November 1-7, 2021. The move to later in the year is in response to the current recommendations and restrictions related to the global coronavirus pandemic. As the health crisis improves, tournament organizers intend to host the world’s best USTA Pro Circuit tennis in the Great Lakes Bay Region in 2021.

The 2022 edition of the Dow Tennis Classic will return to its traditional late January/early February timeslot on the USTA schedule.

“The decision to postpone was certainly not an easy one,” said Steve Cook, executive director of the Greater Midland Tennis Center. “We looked at all available options and concluded a postponement to later in the year is the best path forward. Planning has already begun, and we are very happy to say that we intend to preserve our more than three-decade record of bringing world class women’s tennis to Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay region in November.”

The Dow Tennis Classic has proudly been part of the Midland community for 32 years, and it is the women’s longest running stop on the USTA Pro Circuit. World-class tennis will continue to be staged in the Great Lakes Bay Region thanks to a three-year extension of title sponsorship by Dow for the Dow Tennis Classic which was announced in February 2020. The agreement between Dow and Greater Midland calls for the tournament to remain at the Greater Midland Tennis Center through 2023, ensuring this long-standing international event will continue to have a home in Midland.
