No. 3 seed and wild card Madison Brengle claimed the 2018 Dow Tennis Classic singles title for the first time in her career after defeating fellow American Jamie Loeb 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday.

In the first set, Brengle came out in full force, taking an early 3-0 lead. Loeb started to find the baseline, but Brengle continued to play big tennis and capitalize on two double faults from Loeb and take the opening set 6-1.

In the second set, Brengle continued her assault on Loeb by not giving any free points away and taking another early 3-0 lead. Loeb started to find her groove and broke Brengle late in the set, but Brengle was able to close out the match with a final score of 6-1, 6-2 in 54 minutes.

The two players had played on three previous occasions with the two Americans battling it out less than a year ago in the semifinals of a $60,000 event in Charlottesville, Va. Brengle now strengthens her head-to-head record against Loeb to 4-0 and todays win gives her the biggest title of her career.

In doubles, Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria defeated Jessica Pegula and Maria Sanchez, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8, in a thrilling three-set match. With the win, Christian and Santamaria claimed their third title as a team and biggest title of their careers.
